Day 95: Big Lake & Sisters

From mile 1989.7 to Hwy 20 mile 1998.5, Sisters

We packed up camp in the rain this morning.  It was a quick 2 mile hike to the trail down to the Big Lake Youth Camp then another mile to the camp.

It is a Morman affiliated camp and they welcome PCT hikers.  They offer free breakfast, dinner and showers.  There is camping just off their property.  We stopped in for breakfast.  It was the last day of a kids camp and the place was bustling.  Breakfast was waffles then back to the trail.

A short 6 miles more put us at Hwy 20 for an easy hitch to Sisters.  3 of us are sharing a hotel room.   In the morning my two hiking partners will get a ride to Lake Olallie, just past the fire closure.  I will go west to Interstate 5 to meet Gayle.

Maverick, the section hiker who is giving them a ride tomorrow, joined us for dinner.  He teaches third grade in Utah and lives in a storage unit.  In his community he is known as the hobo teacher.  He’s a character with a huge heart.

We are now hearing that the Forest Service is clearing folks off the trail section we just did because the fire we saw last evening is moving towards the trail.
