Day 14: Back On Track

From Mission Creek mile 235.5 to Arrastre Trail Camp mile 256.2

Got going early this morning feeling so much better.  In the first couple of hours the trail climbed about 2,500 feet up to around 8,800 feet.   It was much cooler, low 80’s, and the vegetation began to include tall pines.  These are the San Gorgonio Mountains, in the San Bernardino Forest and there were still spots of snow.  The highest peak was still snow capped.

For a few miles the trail passed through an area that burned just 2 or 3 years ago.  In some  spots only the biggest trees survived.

Today was such a welcome change from the hot desert.  Hiked 20.7 miles so I have 10 miles tomorrow to the road to Big Bear.  I plan to stay at the Big Bear Hostel and to take Saturday off.
