Day 13: Cheeseburger Express
Last night we were camped only 3.5 miles away from the Nantahala Outdoor Center on the Nantahala River. Whitewater rafting center, outfitter, restaurant, and hostel. Even up where we were the sound of the train that runs up and down the gorge was audible. In my cheeseburger focused mind it was the Cheeseburger Express. Mmmmmm, burgers.
It was a quick hike down this morning and by 10am we were there. 22 bucks for a bunk and a shower. Showered up and then enjoyed a cheeseburger (surprised?) at the restaurant overlooking the river.
Next to the laundry room, then to the outfitter to replace my failing water filter. Much of my gear spread out on the floor drying and I am back at the restaurant having pizza. Tomorrow starts with a climb from an elevation of less than 2,000 feet to over 5,000. I need these calories, and I’m sticking to that story.
Beautiful spot on the river and a bunk, cheeseburger and pizza! It Must have tasted like a slice of heaven!
