To extend the battery life of my satellite/GPS device I will usually be sending only one update at the end of each hiking day.
Please note: updates may be delayed by terrain, dense tree cover, dead batteries, other technical failures or human error. A lack of updates doesn’t mean I’ve fallen off a cliff or been eaten by a bear. It’s more likely I forgot to turn the device back on or forgot it at my last campsite. My wife Gayle has my itinerary and will know if I am overdue. The red line is the Pacific Crest Trail, the red dots indicate my planned resupply stops.
